Dear Mrs. Meehan,

My deepest sympathies to you and your family. I was in the last class Mr. Meehan taught at Magdalen. He had quite a presence when teaching and always had a sense of humor. He was a man of great faith and I have always thought of him throughout the years. Many prayers for you and your family and for the repose of Mr. Meehan's soul. God Bless

Our deepest condolences from the McAvoy family - I met John at a Cursillo retreat several years ago, after hearing of him through his positive reputation in the NH Catholic community. He was a wonderful, humorous, and intelligent team leader. His faith was inspiring and I feel blessed to have met him.

Our deepest sympathies for your loss, Mrs. Meehan and family. John and his efforts through the college dramatically changed our lives and drew us more deeply into the knowledge and love of Christ. He helped us fall in love with the person of Christ. For that, we will be forever grateful. He was indeed a man of deep fidelity, perseverance, and love. And you, Mrs. Meehan, certainly are to be honored for your part in shaping him through your life-long commitment of love. There is a great woman behind this great man!
Although we were unable to attend the funeral today, John, you and your family were very much on our hearts and minds as our family offered up our Divine Mercy planetary indulgences for him this morning and Mass will be said for the repose of his soul. Our kids know Mr. Meehan’s name now, as we have prayed for him every day for the past several of weeks. You and your family continue in our prayers. May Our Lord wrap you in His mantle of love. May He give you comfort and joy as you persevere on your journey toward Him. “God will wipe away every tear from our eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4).

During the summer of 1988 a group of us Sisters were totally immersed in what was then Magdalen College. Mr. Meehan was a constant presence reminding us to "slow down" and to absorb all that we were learning. His deep sense of true piety, his respect for the Church and his patience will remain a lasting memory of a dedicated lay person. Be assured of my prayers for his soul and for the comfort of all his beautiful family.

Dear Mrs. Meehan and Family,

I would just like to express my deepest condolences on the loss of Mr. Meehan. I only knew him by way of our Sisters who attended Magdalen College but he communicated so well to them and to everyone he met his love for God, his support of the Church and his commitment to doing all that he could to make this world a place where faith and knowledge could flourish. He was a great blessing to our community in many ways. My prayers are with you and with him. Sr. Mary Martha Moss, FSP

Where do I begin? I am the second kid to visit the Bedford Motel before it became Magdalen College. Together with 14 other students, we began an amazing journey at Magdalen College in 1974. These were the happiest and most important years of my life. However, I will always cherish and remember my friendship with John and Betty that continued throughout all of these years. The visits over dinner and great conversations. I could always pick up the phone at any time, and John would give me the advice and encouragement that I needed to hear. I always admired John for his love for the Church, but most of all, John was always such a loyal friend and his joy was always so contagious. We always laughed a lot. There is a great human loss here, but John was a great witness to our Catholic Faith, to the Risen Lord and to the reality of eternal life. He really believed. I am very blessed to have been given the gift to be so close to such a great man. I will always miss him, but I know he will want me to carry on with my mission as a Catholic priest. I discovered my calling to the priesthood at Magdalen College. John was instrumental in my vocation through his advice and prayers before I graduated. The Catholic Church in America has lost a great apostle. It is up to his family and his beloved students to carry the torch. It is amazing to see how one faithful man dedicated to the formation of young people could have such an impact on so many young people. Just consider all of the beautiful marriages that came out of Magdalen College. Consider the vocations that were discovered under John's guidance. Many thanks to Mrs. Meehan. She made a lot of silent sacrifices that allowed John to teach, to write and to live out his mission as an outstanding educator. Most of all, I will miss all of the laughter, the singing of Irish ballads with Fr. Paul and Tom, the cigars and the whiskey. To a great friend - thank you.

Father Farfaglia,

You nailed it with every word and yet so much more should be written! We have lost an apostle in the United States; we have a lost of man that lived what he professed; we lost a man that put his faith into action by his charity. Hope to see you on Saturday.

I met John for the first time many years ago when we served on team together for Cursillo. The weekend was filled with joy and laughter, and we became good buddies. Since that first weekend, we have made retreats together and attended several events at the Cathedral in Manchester. Each time we were together, I learned much about my faith and relationship with Jesus, and we always shared a lot of laughter. I will miss his smile, good humor and weekly email instructions. I am happy for him that he has "graduated" and is now with Our Lord. Rest well John. Christ was counting on you, and you didn't let him down...

De Colores!

My sincere sympathies to the Meehan Family. I will remember you all in prayer....

Unfortunately, I will be unable to be at the Funeral as I have two funerals on Saturday morning. I have known John for over 40 years having first met him when I was a Transitional deacon at St. Franics Parish in Goffsfalls. John would process the young men and women to daily Mass and help them appreciate the power and wonder of the Eucharist. Over the years I continued to see John both at Ste. Marie Parish where he often attended Mass and where he often offered catehesis to many of our parishioners. I also worked with John on a Cursillo Weekend.
John knew he was a child of God and did much to promote a greater understanding of church teachings not only in the Acedemic setting of Magdalene College but also in a variety of settings as he mentored so many men and women over the decades. To Elizabeth and to his children I offer my deepest sympathy and pray that he may rest in the Peace of Christ. I will offer Mass for the repose of his soul.
