NORTHWOOD – Peter F. Burgess, 73, of Northwood, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 surrounded by his family following a period of declining health.
Born on August 23, 1948 in Concord, he was the son of the late Peter G. and Eleanor (Mulligan) Burgess.
Peter was educated in the local schools, after graduating from Bishop Brady High School he went on to join and serve in the United States Army. Upon his return he held many positions through the years including as the former Chief of Epsom Police Department. More recently he was working for St. Paul’s School as a security officer until his retirement. He enjoyed coin collecting, watching Nascar and football and helping with his grandson Gregory's after school care. He also loved his parrot, cat and two dogs. In his younger years he enjoyed skiing, playing and coaching sports.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Walker) Burgess of Northwood with whom he shared 29 years of marriage, children, Peter F. Burgess, II, Jeffrey P. Burgess, Jeremy S. Burgess, Valerie K. Burgess and her significant other, Patrick W. Thorne, Kimberly A. Palmer, Julie M. Spratt and her husband Brian, Bradley D. Palmer and his wife Trish, Brenda L. Burgess, Michael C. Burgess, Jacob K. Burgess and Gabriel D. Burgess, a sister, Christine A. Burgess, seven grandchildren as well as two nieces and numerous friends.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 1:30PM-2:30PM at the Epsom Bible Church, 398 Black Hall Road, Epsom. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30pm ending with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Granite VNA Hospice, 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord, NH 03301or to the Benevolent Fund at Epsom Bible Church, 398 Black Hall Road, Epsom, NH 03234.
