Marilyn Watson Obituary

PEMBROKE- Marilyn Elizabeth Watson, 71, of Pembroke, NH, was struck by a vehicle and died on May 16, 2023. Marilyn was born on October 24, 1951, in Pottsville, PA, to James Hunter Watson and Maecille Phyllis Watson. She was their fourth child. Marilyn earned her Associate degree in Nursing from Northeastern University, Cum Laude. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Paralegal Certificate, Master of Science in Nursing, Master of Public Health-Ecology, and Master of Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude. She dedicated her life to healthcare and retired from Anthem as a Clinical Research Manager.

Marilyn served on the Pembroke School Board, the AARP leadership team, and was a docent at the Currier Museum of Art. She was an active congregant and participant in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church activities (Vestry, Ministry of Presence, and Hospitality). She was also an Audubon Society member and volunteer.

Marilyn was fascinated by birds of prey and enjoyed camping and hiking. She was an avid bargain hunter who never met a sale she didn’t like. Marilyn relished gambling and was a formidable Gin-Rummy and Monopoly player. She was a big action movie fan who fancied James Bond. Her loud laugh sang anytime Eddie Murphy and Gilda Radner performed. She rocked out to Deep Purple, Rush and, despite the protests by her children—who were once held captive in an ’88 Chevy Suburban on a 2600-mile cross-country road trip to the Grand Canyon—she LOVED Yes’ Big Generator, an album she listened to over and over and over…both ways.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Watson, and survived by her siblings, Dr. James Watson, Aurora Dellolio, Vincent Watson, Joseph Watson, Joan Flaherty, and her children, Bethany W. Gates, Ian Duffy, and Anevay Duffy.
