January 30, 1926 ~ December 12, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old


Captain Lewis G. Joslyn, 91 of Center Barnstead, a WWII Navy Veteran, passed away peacefully in his home on December 12, 2017 with his family at his side.

Born on January 30, 1926 in Ipswich, MA, he was the son of the late Ernest and Helen (Mansfield) Joslyn.

A man of many talents he led a long and colorful life. After his military service, he married his wife of 56 years in Nova Scotia where he and his father owned a fish company and he was Captain of the Coastal freighter “The Delores T.” When returning to the states he worked as a machinist at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and managed a camera shop; then became a newspaper reporter/photographer for the Union Leader, Haverhill Journal and Haverhill Gazette winning a Pulitzer Prize for one story.

He then became an Industrial and Economic Director for the cities of Haverhill, Lowell and Woonsocket, RI. He had some time as the Vice President of a Construction company as well as a Real Estate Agent. He later started an art restoration picture framing shop along with a Christmas Tree Farm, finding time to help his son with logging all based out of the family farm in Ipswich, MA.

The passion for photography took him Worldwide and won him awards too numerous to count. The start to finish building of a 2-masted schooner in Essex, MA was recorded with 4400 photos. He was also an accomplished cook that enjoyed feeding groups of up to 70, then writing and publishing his own cookbook, most recently working on an autobiography until shortly before his illness.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Norma (Trafton) Joslyn.

He is survived by his son Glenn and his partner, Collette of Center Barnstead as well as cousins, nephews in York, ME as well as friends covering the east coast and well beyond.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 12:00pm-2:00pm at the Still Oaks Funeral & Memorial Home, 1217 Suncook Valley Highway, Epsom.
