Jon Havens Obituary

MEREDITH, NH- Jon Robert Havens, 55, of Meredith, NH, passed away unexpectedly doing what he loved on June 4, 2020.

Born in Syracuse, NY, Jon was the son of Sharon Ann (Lown) Havens.  He was raised and educated in the Unadilla, NY area.  He was a graduate of Unatego High School, where he was a sports enthusiast, participating in baseball, basketball and football.  In his earlier years, he also did a lot of fishing and hunting.

Upon graduating, Jon enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country from October of 1984 to April of 1988.

Prior to his retirement last year, Jon was employed as an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration, beginning in Rhode Island before transferring to Massachusetts and finally New Hampshire.  Though short-lived, Jon and his wife Angela were able to make their lake house dream a reality.

Jon was an avid fisherman.  It was his favorite hobby and he enjoyed it more than anything.  He would go by himself or take anyone that asked, even the kids of those who asked.  He most enjoyed fishing with his brother, Rich, his two nephews, David and Jon, his niece Stephanie and his little buddy Anthony M. Serino.

Jon was a triathlete and runner, finishing several Sprint, Olympic and Half Triathlons, several marathons and was a two-time Iron Man Triathlete.  He enjoyed snowboarding and made yearly winter trips across the country with his close friends.

In addition to his mother, Jon is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Angela (Willard) Havens; his brother, Richard A. Havens and his wife Shelly; his nephews, David R. and Jon J. Havens; his niece, Stephanie N. Havens and his two grand-nephews, Jay and Phillip Havens.  He is survived by Angela’s family in Washington State and his extended family in Upstate, NY and Florida.  Jon also leaves behind “The Village.”  Over the last 32 years, he and his wife made lifelong friends, who have been together through marriages, babies, health issues, family crises, and family deaths.  They enjoyed many wonderful memories on trips as adults and then, when children came, they celebrated birthdays, baptisms, confirmations, graduations and so much more.    They have and will always be there for one another.  They all know who they are and will always be family.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services at this time.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Jon’s memory may be sent to the Squam Lakes Association, 534 US Route 3, Holderness, NH 03245 or at www.squamlakes.org.  This was Jon’s favorite place to fish.  Assisting the family with arrangements is the Petit-Roan Funeral Home in Pembroke, NH.  Sharing written remembrances and condolences during this time will be essential in helping Jon’s family reminisce, celebrate and heal.  To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit www.petitroan.com
