BOW – Durrell K. Smith, 68, of Bow, passed away at his residence on Friday, March 22, 2024. He was born on August 19, 1955 in Haverhill, MA, son of James Smith and late Gail (Chase) Smith.
To know Durrell was indeed quite something: he was a hard man, yet kind, gentle, and had a playful sense of humor. He privately battled a long term illness, of which few knew, never a complaint did he speak. With quiet resilience, a reserved nature, yet a fiery intensity, he lived his life and was truly a man of his own making. Humble beginnings beset no obstacle: a genuine, honest, and fastidious man in all manner, as a father, a friend, and an example of a forgotten age. A better man would be hard pressed to find. Himself departed, his memory however not easily forgotten. He did not go gently into that good night, Dylan Thomas would be proud, raged he did, against the dying of the light. He was predeceased by his Mother Gail (Chase) Smith and his sister Jerelee Tracy.
He is survived by his father, James Smith of Chino Valley, Arizona, children, Ross Smith of Allenstown, Keston Smith of Boscawen, Mallory Cook and her husband Matthew Cook of Loudon, grandchildren, Madeleine Cook, Milton Cook and Miley Cook and a chosen close circle of friends.
A Celebration of life will be held later in the spring. The Roan Family Funeral Home in Pembroke is assisting the family with arrangements. To share a memory or offer a condolence please visit www.roanfamilyfuneral.com
