Doris Sherman

EPSOM – Doris Sherman, 93 of Epsom, formerly of Bedford passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021 at her residence.

Born on July 28, 1928 in Lockland, OH, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Marguerite (Dumante) Pittman.

Doris was a Bedford resident for over 30 years before moving to Epsom. She worked for many years at Graystone Farms, LLC until her retirement. She held many positions over the years as an insurance / stock broker with Robert Carr and Associates in Manchester, a certified financial planner with Homechoice, LLC and the Town Planner for many years in Acton, MA where she showed her passon in protecting the environment against excess development. Doris enjoyed gardening and being with nature. She was a lifelong learner who enjoyed helping others any way that she could. She was quite entrepreneurial having a number of other ventures in the arts which she loved, visiting museums was always the first stop on any trip.

Doris was active with many organizations such as the League of Woman Voters in North Reading, MA, she was the President of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill – New Hampshire – (NAMI), a member of Osher Life Long Learning (OLLI) and New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR).

She is survived by her children, Richard Sherman and his wife Mimi, Kent Sherman, Alex Leitaker and her husband John and Molly Sherman, a brother, Robert Pittman, a granddaughter, Christina Sherman and longtime friend and caretaker Rick Smith of Epsom.

Doris chose many years ago to donate her body to science and that is what she has done. The Still Oaks Funeral Home in Epsom is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Doris has requested donations be sent to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill which was a focus for many years of her passionate support.
