CONCORD-Doris Messler peacefully passed away January 21, 2023, looking forward to re-uniting with her husband and best friend Charlie, who passed in 2021.
Doris Mary Caul was born on July 20, 1927 in Middlesex, New Jersey to Henry and Martha Caul. She graduated from Bound Brook High School in 1945 where she was tagged "Pretty to walk with, witty to talk with" in her yearbook, and has stayed in contact with high school friends to this day.
Right after high school, she began her long career in banking at the First National Bank in North Plainfield, New Jersey. It is there she met the love of her life, ice cream loving Charlie Messler. They married in 1958 and settled in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, where they raised three daughters. Doris continued her banking career until retiring as a Vice President in 1987.
She and Charlie enjoyed skiing, golf and walking in the Watchung NJ Reservation, but her true passion was antiquing and making their house a home.
Doris and Charlie retired to New Bern, North Carolina where they spent twenty-eight years playing a daily round of golf on the course they lived on and loved, along with many new friends.
Doris is predeceased by her younger sister Marian Motyka. She leaves behind her brothers Edward Caul and his wife Fran, and David Caul in California; her daughters Patricia Glynn of Manalapan, New Jersey; Martha Brown and her husband Eric of Concord, New Hampshire; and Amy Messler Borelli and her husband Doug of Lopatcong, New Jersey.
She had six grandchildren, Jason Glynn and Katy Tillman of New Jersey; Meghan Straughn, Kyle Brown, and Colin Brown of New Hampshire & Spencer Borelli of New Jersey.
And the final joys of her life were her great grandchildren, Joseph and Amelia of New Jersey; Nora, Layla, Connor, Jacoby, Parker and another on the way in New Hampshire.
