Oscar P. Plourde, 89, a lifelong Suncook resident, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, surrounded by his family and those closest to him following a brief illness.
Born on October 20, 1928, in Suncook, he was the son of the late Romeo and Theresa (Riopel) Plourde.
Oscar was educated in the local schools and at the age of 16 went to work for his parents, at Plourde Sand and Gravel, later becoming the Owner. He had been running the company for over 50 years.
Work to Oscar was his life, but when he wasn’t working he was very active in his community, from his lifetime membership to the American Legion Post #28, as well as the Suncook Rod and Gun Club. He was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus in Suncook and Concord, a longtime board member for the Town of Pembroke, and as Chairman for the Town of Pembroke Road Committee for multiple years. He was very involved with the Old St. Jean the Baptist Cemetery Committee and served as former
Assistant Fire Chief in Pembroke. He held longtime positions with associated general contractors and NH Good Roads association among many other groups and organizations. When he was in Florida he enjoyed attending Construction Auctions with his son Dan and was very proud to hold Auction #1 as his number.
Besides his parents, Oscar was predeceased by his brother, Robert E. Plourde and sister, Lucille Richotte.
He is survived by his wife, Gabrielle (Mulaire) Plourde of Suncook, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage; his son Daniel O. Plourde and his friend Malinda of Loudon, his grandchildren, Dawn Plourde and her fiancé Carlton Mayo, Daniele G. Plourde of Manchester and André R. Plourde of Oregon;
great grandchildren, Makayala G. Mayo, Morgan-Rhae C. Mayo and Minnow M. Mayo. His longtime employees were his extended family including, Brian & Karen Amyot and Phillip Plourde who was always more than a nephew, working for and with him his whole life through. Siblings include, Lawrence Plourde of Suncook, Claire Scott of Pembroke, Florence Erdle of North Dakota, and Evelyn Plourde of Warner; He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday, May 4th from 2 to 7 P.M. at Plourde Sand and Gravel, 523 W River Road, Hooksett. Please come as you are to calling hours, the way that Oscar would have known you. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 5th at 10:00 A.M. in St. John the Baptist Church in Allenstown. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Allenstown. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Suncook Valley Rod and Gun Club children and seniors fishing derbies, 345 Academy Road, Pembroke, NH 03275.
