Mike was more than a great friend...he was my brother...he was a great guy...the best friend I could have ever asked for, we had so many great and crazy times together. I miss him so much. I'm so glad that I and my family were there for him these last several months, it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do but so glad I was there for him in his time of need. I know he would have done the same for me. I miss and love you Mikey...I don't know what I will do with out you...rest in peace my friend...until we meet again...Jim, Andrea and Lucy Jankauskas đź’”

Dear McGourty Family,

I was saddened to hear of Mike’s passing and prior illness from another childhood friend that still lives in Epsom.

Time passes by so quickly, so it’s hard to believe that it’s been decades since seeing Mike, but I have thought of him often over the years. I have such great memories of my childhood and the group of friends that I had in that New Rye neighborhood. Even though I grew up so poor, I was certainly rich in friends and often tell people that I look back on those times with a smile on my face.

Your home on Wing Road was certainly the house where all of us felt welcome and was the “cool” house to hang out at. From riding our bikes everywhere, to swimming in your pool, sleepovers and building those crazy forts at the Yeaton’s house - wow, what fun times! You provided a great environment for your own children and as I’d realize in later years, a stable environment and a great parenting example for me and likely others in our band of friends.

Outside of the everyday, I especially remember our days in the Boy Scouts. You tirelessly gave of your time for your family and community, and I thank you. The endless camping trips, weekly scout meetings, paper drives, jamborees and more. So many great memories of those trips and I still the have photos of the jamborees with Mike, Jackson and Tom.

Having been friends with Mike since starting grade school, I also recall so many fun times during the school years – class trips, sports, school dances, pulling many pranks and more. I was really so lucky to have such a good friend in those formative years and hold memories of him and your family close.

While life takes us down different paths and we unfortunately lose touch sometimes, I wanted you to know that Mike was such a great friend to me all of those years ago as I’m sure he was to others he touched throughout his life.

I will be away on a trip at the time of Mike’s services, but wanted to send my condolences and let you know that I’m thinking of you all during this difficult time.

Dear Jack and Louise,
I am so very sorry for the loss of your son Mike. I enjoyed working with him. He always just figured out how to get things done. One time I needed an extension for my desk. Well, Mike went out to “the scrap pile” and found everything he needed to make me an awesome leaf! You could have stood on it! He was very clever, that way. I think most people would have said that he was a regular good guy, that nobody had a bad word to say about. He will be greatly missed.
Love,
Tracey
