Glorie LaFond Obituary

PEMBROKE- Mrs. Glorie (Henry) LaFond, 90, of Pembroke, passed away peacefully at the Massachusetts General Hospital after a short illness on September 19, 2018.

Born in Pembroke, Glorie was the daughter of the late Ernest and Aldea (St. John) Henry.  She was raised and educated in Suncook and was a graduate of Pembroke Academy Class of 1945.  She was extremely proud to have spent her entire life in the home in which she was born.

Glorie met her beloved husband, Richard “Butch” in 1944 and they were married in 1948.  They were recently acknowledged for their 70th wedding anniversary by family and friends.  She worked as an operator and supervisor for New England Telephone from 1945-1954.  She later worked as a cashier for Szabo Food Service for years.  She spent the rest of her life as a happy, stay-at-home wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Glorie and Butch were longtime faithful communicants of St. John the Baptist Church in Allenstown, where she volunteered counting the weekly collections and at the annual Penny Sale.  She also volunteered for Our Family’s Table.  She enjoyed knitting, reading and yard sales.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Floris H. Lanigan and Goldie H. Lugg and her brother, Lester J. Henry.

Glorie is survived by her beloved husband of over 70 years, Richard T. “Butch” LaFond; her daughter, Glorie Anne Jacob and her husband Louis of Pembroke, her granddaughter, Kathy Lavoie and her husband Steve and two great grandchildren, Miles and Teresa Lavoie.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours and services will be held privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Glorie’s memory may be sent to the St. John the Baptist Renovation Fund, 10 School St. Allenstown, NH 03275.  Assisting the family with arrangements is the Petit-Roan Funeral Home in Pembroke.  To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit www.petitroan.com
