Sorry to hear about your loss, condolences to the family. I lived in Foxboro growing up and babysat Glenn. My Dad, Norman Allen, worked with Oscar and played in the drum Corp with him.

To Glenn's family,

My heart goes out to all of you as you deal with this unfathomable loss.

I quote from my posting on Facebook celebrating my friendship with Glenn:

"The day after my 24th birthday I started working at the Department of Welfare as a Case Technician. My boss was a man 13 years my senior. He was a slim guy with a beard and an easy manner, a wry humor, and a quick mind. He seemed out of place in a bureaucratic setting, more a poet than anything. He was a great boss, and became an even better friend. He looked out for me when my MG broke down. He had an old one, I had a new one. When I was in trouble, he and his family took me in for a weekend. He made repairs on my apartment. He and his kids brought me a featherless fledgling bird to care for who I named Rufus….

Years later we fell out of touch, and as things happened, we reconnected through a mutual friend maybe 9 years ago… His wife had died and he was bereft. We renewed our friendship over many a dinner. We had many laughs, and some heart felt chats. I looked forward to those dinners, to the warm smiles, the bear hugs, the silliness, the connection so many years old.

He died this past week and I have lost a dear friend. He leaves behind his mom, three children, grandchildren and a slew of friends.

He loved Monty Python, especially The Holy Grail, and could quote them to beat the band. Instead of condolences or sad faces, please post something Monty Pythonesque - a quote, a clip, an image. Thanks."

The posts in response felt like an Irish wake, cheering on the man I knew ...

Cheers, Glenn, Ni! Rest in peace. xxoo

Glenn was my boss and my friend when I was in my early 20s and lived in NH in the early 1980s. Over the years I traveled around but I was lucky enough to reconnect around 2007, when I was able to pay back the debt of friendship I had owed him from the intervening years. His happy greeting of "Well Hi There!" on the phone in the morning on my way to work was lovely to hear and he rarely ran out of chatter, keeping me laughing all the way to down town Miami. He was such a contradiction - so full of fun and yet such a deep spring of serious thought and insight. He liked to ask the hard questions I wanted to avoid, and he wasn't afraid to scold. A true friend can do both and still be loved, and love him I did. I know he is at peace, I hope he sees Patty again - he waited a long time with great patience. Every time I see the night sky I think of him; I know he would have loved to see the meteor shower coming up but maybe he'll enjoy it from a better vantage point this month.

Very sorry for your sudden loss. I worked with Glen (and Patty) for several years. Glen used to say, in response to "how you doing" with "almost very nearly perfect!". I loved that response, and shamelessly stole it to use myself. I remember him every time I use it.
