Arlene Johnson

Arlene (Whittemore) Johnson, 96, of Northwood NH,  died Friday, April 13, 2018 at her home surrounded  by her loving family. 

Born in Plymouth NH on December 20, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Hazel Whittemore.  She was educated in local Plymouth schools and graduate from Plymouth Teacher's College (now Plymouth State University) in 1942 with a BS in education with a concentration in mathematics.

Arlene taught at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy and in Lebanon NH, helped on the family farm especially in bookkeeping, helped to manage Johnson's Dairy Bar (1955-1975), served as Northwood Town Clerk (1978-1998), and was a substitute teacher.

She was active in Women's Club once serving as President, the Advent Christian Church serving as Sunday school teacher, treasurer, and member of the Women's Home and Foreign Mission Society, and 4-H serving as boys' club leader for many years.  She was also involved in Rockingham County Extension. 

Arlene was very active in her church and community in many ways until her death.

Her husband of 52 years, Samuel Johnson Jr. died in 1998.  Members of her surviving family include 3 children and their spouses, Rebecca J. and Keith Irvine of Ephrata, PA, Samuel W. and Susan Johnson and Sally and David Aseltine all of Northwood NH; 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Stacy and Doug Sweet, Matthew and Jennifer Irvine, Jason and Heather Johnson, Joshua and Sara Irvine, Brian and Kerri Johnson, Charity and Stephen Jones, Ben and Amanda Aseltine, Jesse and Shellie Aseltine; and 24 great grandchildren Daisy, Darin, Malachi, Phineas, Regan, Sophia, Arielle, Ryleigh, Caleb, Eli, Elijah, Paisley, King, Luke, Kate, Isaiah, Josiah, Eden, Brielle, Asher, Jackson, Boaz, Hannah, and Jaren.

She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Millar and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Still Oaks Funeral Home, 1217 Suncook Valley Highway, Epsom, NH on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 P.M.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Northwood Advent Christian Church, 113 School Street, Northwood, NH.
